WHAT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE?

Street/Landscape

WHO INSPIRES YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

To be honest, I don’t really know who or what inspires my photography. I’m sure looking at Instagram and all the different photographers definitely inspires my work, but I don’t really have a specific person who I take inspiration from, consciously anyway. I just take my camera around with me and when I find a subject that interests me, I capture it.

DO YOU PREFER TO SHOOT FILM OVER DIGITAL?

I enjoy using both film and digital, but I do prefer using film. There are two reasons I like film and prefer it over digital: the main reason is the actual look of film photos. The grain of the photos and my chosen stock of film, which is Kodak Gold 200, gives my photos a nostalgic feel, which I personally think looks better than the results I would get from my digital camera. The other reason is, when I shoot with my film camera, I find myself taking more time over composing the shot. This is because I know I only have a limited amount of exposures left. Because of this I have seen an improvement in my photography over the past couple of months.

WHEN AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?

I don’t actually know when I got into photography. I’ve always taken photos on my phone. One day I decided that I wanted to buy a camera. My first camera was the Sony A6000, which I got around 2017, so that’s probably the time you could say I got more serious about photography. I only got into film photography very recently. I started in January of this year. I decided to buy a film camera after looking at Instagram. I simply liked the look of the photos that people where achieving with film and I wanted to give it a shot.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT FILM PHOTOGRAPHY?

I love film photography because I like not knowing what the photo looks like straight away. I look forward to sending my roll of film to the lab and receiving the email with my photos. When looking through the photos, I'm pleasantly surprised at how some of my photos have come out! It might be that an image isn't sharp or has sun glare, but I like how film is imperfect.
